What is a Brand Identity? It is the representation of your brand, the name, logo, visual appearance, and its trademark. Brand Identity is a way for companies to represent themself to the world, their competitors.
This includes Logo, Colors, Typography, Design System, Iconography, etc.
What are the main points of a good Brand?
- Distinct
Stands out to others. - Memorable
Creates an impression that is hard to forget. - Scalable
It can evolve as the brand grows. - Cohesive
Complements the brand identity. - Easy to Apply
Easy for designers to use and not too detailed.
Creating Brand from Scratch:
This is one of the way to create a brand from scratch for you,
- Brand Strategy
Design is connected to Psychology principles which can be targeted by designers to communicate with the consumer. - Create the Visuals
Creating a logo is a huge part of brand identity, even though logos are not your brand it visualizes the intention and logos are the basic of a brand identity, a symbol of representation that enables connection with the consumers.
- Applying Color
Color palette has a psychology effect on human behavior and could affect daily decision as it evokes feeling, incites people.
Choosing the correct palette of color is more important than you could possibly imagine. - Applying Typography
Typography refers to fonts used. Choosing the right font talks a lot about the style of the representation, you can be more casual or more modernized like the sans serif fonts.
Design System
Design systems are assets that can be reusable guided by standards and can be assembled to build an application.
Creating a design system is similar to creating a brand:
- Creating a theme
Do a visual audit on the current design, create a library for the css that are used and elements that are needed to create components in the future. - Create a visual Design Language
- Color : Primaries & Secondaries color that represent the brand
- Typography : The main font that are used for both heading and body
- Sizing and Spacing : The spacing and size that are used.
- Imagery : Having a set of guidelines for the icons or image format. - UI Library
Collects all the assets that are used in the application and removes what is not necessary. - Documenting Uses of Component
Record the usage of components on the application to create a standard that can be followed eventually that leads to more consistency.

Brands are the representation of a company or application that involves an unique design, symbol, typography, icon with purpose to differentiate from other competitors while Design System are a way to create a consistency in an app as a whole so that the style is standardized.
